"Slate is a fine-grained, foliated, homogeneous metamorphic rock derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash through low-grade regional metamorphism. It is the finest grained foliated metamorphic rock"

Cheek -but I do have several tubs of carrots round the back - no.1 grandson wants to enter them in the August allotment show and I could only put in a couple of lots in raised beds up there, one in each plot, and since I had a surfeit and he won last year's best in Show for his vegetable animal and is determined to expand his entries this year, what else could I do

No great effort required - just a couple of canes and a bit of string and about 30 minutes planting time for the bed outside the window - I did not bother with the string for the other two beds - hopefully they will all flow into one another in a few weeks time and they will suit your artistic taste by then. They always have done in years gone by. I'll see if I have any old photos.

I can assure you my cupboards are no better organised than yours - If we ask nicely maybe Hazel will send us her plan

                • ...and ink monitors!

Needless to say I was far too too messy to ever be allowed to handle the large bottle of ink to top up the inkwells!

My second achievement of the day is that I've just made devilled kidneys to serve with rice for supper....yummy yum...not had that for at least a couple of years!

                  • Hmmmm devilled kidneys sound deeeeelish! Landlady of the Pub I worked in, many moons ago, would pan fry in chicken liver in Marsala. I'm drooling, just thinking about it!

                        • Trip - thanks very much - I'll pass your kind words on to my cleaner and gardener though he will get a rocket for the weeds - think they are still there and that last lot of pics were taken a few years ago.

                              • Week 24 Challenge

                                Go Round a Maze

I don't know why it is, but I have always been fascinated with labyrinths and mazes - probably down to a misspent youth sitting round a big table playing too much in the way of Dungeons and Dragons with my big brother and his mates.

Every now and again in later Summer I'll be out and about and see a sign for a MAIZE MAZE where a maze has been cut in a farmer's field in the shape of a maze (or sown accordingly, I guess, so it grows into the shape), and wanted to check it out, but I have never got round to it.

So when I was away for a girls' weekend with my big sister Helen this week in London, we decided to spend a day in Hampton Court Palace. And what's at Hampton Court Palace? Yes - the world famous Hampton Court Maze. Hurrah!

When we got in, Helen had a Plan, and said 'let's always choose the most unlikely path - like the one going towards the outside and not towards the middle.'

Well, I said that that sounded like a stupid idea to me, and would result in us going round and round and round until dinner time.

But - and this was most irritating - she was RIGHT, and despite a couple of false turns, we eventually found ourselves in the middle! And here is Helen in the middle to prove it.

That was tremendous fun! And my week 24 Challenge - done!
