  • Hazel,

I considered just putting in 'looking after eldest grandson and a variety of chores' but thought I'd detail them day by day - I missed out 'visits to allotment as time available' I might manage Tuesday pm and Wednesday am/pm as son in law is off on holiday next two days but thought I'd leave it open

        • Concentrate Shen Catching a snowflake on your tongue - though how you take a piccie I'm not sure
Just had a silly thought (who me? sure not!!)
We could take turns to set group challenges - like catch a leaf, snowflake etc. Maybe next year

          • VC - Suppose you could have a camera on your head pointing down like a headtorch and put it on record - that way you would get all the misses as well as the catch - a bit like you've been framed or candid camera - if you joined them together it would be the perfect 'nutter' video'.

You could call it 'UK Nutters at Play'

              • VC - Apologies but change of plan for week 43 challenge. Eldest grandson has been able to go to school as teacher has moved chairs and desks around to give him room to stretch his leg and his friends have stayed in with him at break times so I am no longer required for baby sitting duties.

In addition my friends have called off today's meeting at the library.

As a result I will simplify my week 43 challenge to:

                1. Monday: - go to allotment for winter tidy - already done.
                2. Tuesday am: - go to Library for production of publications - already done.

                So Week 43 Challenge completed

                • My challenge for this week is to remain calm in the face of endless (sometimes ridicolous) questions from auditors...only 2 more days to survive....
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

                      Make Christmas Decorations

There's a Christmas Fair at mum's church at the end of November each year, and they are always looking for donations for the various stalls (books, china, cakes etc), and as ever, she asked if I had anything that might fit the bill that I could contribute.

Well, I'd recently chatted with my colleague about Christmas crafts, and we'd been thinking about making Christmas decorations - I am a member of a monthly on-line sewing circle - and we're looking at all sorts of Christmas projects at the mo.

I figured that if I could donate some hand-made Christmas decorations from a design that we thought up between us for the sew-in; then they could be sold on the 'handicrafts' stall.

So this weekend I have been gathering fabric, ribbon, beads and bells; and cutting, sewing and embellishing.

This is what the finished tree decorations look like hanging from a makeshift tree - a couple of dozen more to finish, but in essence, that's my week 43 Challenge done!

Well I survived.. And so did they.... VC seems to have some experience of this, so I knew we did OK when they said we might be overdoing some of the controls at the expense of efficiency as their main point at the close meeting

                        • I've been about as motivated as a dead fish over the last two months due to the stupid knees, but last week saw me getting a tax code from the IRS. I'm pretty phonaphobic so this was an achievement, although after being on hold for 40 minutes twice and then the phone line dropping out (voip) mr pp took over. It took three hours in the end. And the call itself was all of ten minutes

                          • Pyrenees - I had a similar problem a few years back when a friend in the FHS told me always to call in the evening around 1900 and it worked a treat - the hold was about 10mins if I recollect correctly and this time I did not get cut off - not that it really solved anything - they had given me the wrong tax code at the beginning of the year despite me filling in the form correctly and submitting it timeously but at the end of the call I was left feeling as if it was my fault for bothering them.

My friend told me they were useless when you first retired as they always got it wrong but at least mine has been ok since, so far, whereas she had problems for a number of years afterwards which was why she was so clued up about when was the best time to phone.

Apologies to VC for being off post

                            • My Week 43 Challenge was to take some apples for identification at an Apple day.
Partial success - a definite Ashmeads Kernel, suggested Royal Russet (for which I can find no information) and the quince-like one could be Early Emneth/Victoria or Lord Grosvenor. There are 3 other apples with big question marks so I have promised to record dates, flowering etc for him for next year. Could be one of my next year's challenges
