    • Week 50 Challenge

I collected enough woodchip to cover all the paths on my plot; my daughter's plot and grandkids' plot The latter took very little but instead of immediately covering the paths on the other two plots I have dumped loads at top & bottom and in the middle until I can edge the beds properly with wood.

      Week 50 Challenge Completed.

I like you mother - apart from above which shows a great deal of common sense, if I remember correctly from a previous post she also has a nice bathroom similar to mine

        • Sorry Shen, but you're confusing my Mother's bathroom with another one you have visited. Do you make a habit of this?

          • You mean I'm confusing your mother with somebody else - there can't be two of them - can there?

I have to put my mother up here as 'exhibit A'. I'm sure that VC's mother has excellent taste in bathrooms (bathchairs not withstanding), however it was my mother's bathroom which is the same as yours.

                    • For week 51 Challenge I went to watch my grandson's nativity performances - think the youngest had the best part as he was one of the 3 Kings and he had the purple robes so looked the part. No.2 was dressed as a Roman census taker and No.1 had a cowboy hat on

                      Nevertheless week 51 Challenge completed

                      • Week 51

                        Attend a Church Service

Without getting into a debate with regard to Christian beliefs v's society traditions, Church attendance for me is a nominal event; with attendance at least one C of E service per year is something of a three line whip.

It is imposed to all direct descendants by my mother, and attended these days by me and my brother. My sister is exempt on distance grounds, and the grandchildren are not in the county until rather later in the festivities.

Attending the traditional 'Festival of Nine Carols and Lessons' does rather take one from the shallow shopping bonanza that Christmas has become, to somewhere of comfortable family values - Queen's speech, Roses chocs, board games (or is that just us?) - even if not quite getting to the spiritual.

So my thoughts whilst 'member of the laity' is at the lectern reading Isaiah chap 40: vs 1-5 is of childhood Christmases. An eccentric elderly great aunt staying meaning sharing a bedroom with a campbed and a sibling, Pomagne as the great treat - celery sticks in a jar, dipped in salt. A box of Rover's assorted. Lonnie Donegan on the gramophone.

And tonight in church, my thoughts ran to 'what Christmas means to me now'. The answer to which - and I'm not proud to admit this - is 'to be able to muck about without feeling guilty'.

Not very spiritual, is it? *sigh.

But I have completed my week 51 challenge,

                          • My Big challenge for Week 51 was taking my Mum to hospital!! The actual challenge was finding and setting 3 different alarms (including my mobile phone ) to make sure I was up before 6 am. Two alarms worked, the 3rd went off at midnight Two were enough though - so success
