  • Well Done Red, to have got this far. I'm sure the thread will continue until you cease to have a need for it
I quit years ago before I ever really got started - just a social smoker when it was acceptable to smoke in public. I thought I looked so cool and mature Some hope of me ever being that I'm sure you've always been cool - not too sure about the mature

    • Redser, bet there will be a fair few quitting now that lent is coming up. You at least can say you have a head start on them.
When you start to tell other people how hard it was for you to give them up, you know your on your way.
Keep going. You don't want to go through this again. Just remember EVERY HOUR is another step in the right direction.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

      • Good on you Redser! Another week stronger. It all helps.

Horses for courses with the style you choose to do it. I once gave up cold turkey. But having taken up again after 2 years found I couldn't do it that way again. Used patches (but only for 2 weeks) other people need to come off slowly. I think the support after the first little bit, is what helps whether you're weaning off the cigarette or the patch. There are 300 other substances that you inhale with your cigarette, which are not in your nicotine patch.

VC, if you keep putting up the price of wine, I'll have to start making my own! Hush.

        • How's it going?
I've never been to Ireland but my sister has and she says there are some beautiful places to go walking around Dublin. You must be starting to feel a little more sure of yourself now. Keep in touch here!

The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

Hi Patch. Still off them. Had a particularly good moment yesterday morning. Got up around 6.30 and didnt think about ciggies until about 9.30. I know because I was surprised and looked at the time Of course I woke up this morning, got dressed and put my hand in my pocket for my lighter. Old habits will die hard.
You should pop over some time if you can (we need the tourism cash wink wink). I suppose like most people I have a love/hate relationship with my own country but we do have a great city here and amazing scenary around the country. If you have some spare time have a browse through this chap's photo thread. As far as I know he's an amateur photographer but love clicking through the new and old photos and reading the little accounts of his travels ...

i set myself a goal of a new leather jacket £150 at the time and every time i thought i needed a cigarette fined myself the equal cost of one and also the price of a packet each day. new jacket in just on 3 months.... i stiched up the pockets so nowhere for the ciggies and lighter
