  • Carbonated water

I've heard that carbonated water is not good for bone density, I assumed that this referred to commercially produced carbonated drinks.

I use a soda stream to make soda water and drink at least one litre a day.

Would my soda-stream sparkling water be better than the commercially produced or no different?

I can understand how chemicals may affect bone density, but not how fizzing bubbles into the water would affect it

    Any ideas?

I took it to be cola and other fizzy drinks not the water itself. would like to know the real answer though.

I thought the same as Bren, but I too would be interested to know for sure.
Soda Stream - we used to have one years ago when we were in the Army - crikey, I didn't know they were still available!

I think you'll be okay with fizzy water:

American researchers blame the caffeine in carbonated drinks for stripping calcium from the body.

The findings, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, showed that people who drink colas and other caffeinated carbonated drinks tended to excrete vital calcium through their urine.

They said this is becoming an increasing problem particularly for young people who are tending to drink more and more fizzy drinks and less and less milk, which is rich in calcium.

              Thanks hun.

I just got this from a Dr of science pal of mine (get me, with clever friends eh!)

I wouldn't worry. The evidence isn't strong, and it seems to only relate to colas, not other carbonated drinks, see this and this

Having said that, I'd expect soda-stream sparkling water to be much the same as a commercially produced version.

The bubbles come from dissolved carbon dioxide. In other words, a chemical. But chemicals aren't bad. We are all made out of 100% chemicals, as are all the foods we eat. All matter is chemicals*.
