Thanks VC & Zaz for the links & recipes. Both the noodles and that easy Gobi Manchurian recipe look really delicious I'll have to pop out tomorrow to get some of the ingredients and then have a go at making them.

As for Marmite and vitamin B12 - well I just love it and have been using it as a spread on my sandwiches. Lettuce and Marmite, yum yum So no chance of me having a lack of vit B12.

I think a whole new world of eating has just opened up for me............

Yes but its not from an animal source and we were discussing veganism

          Marmite... mmmmm.

I made a fantastic vegan choccy cake tonight. I got the recipe off this forum and can't find it now! Glad I wrote it down
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Yum, thanks for the recipe - too late for tonight sadly (too full!) but have all the ingredients so will give it a go tomorrow.

Was it the one with vinegar in, its in this thread on one of the first pages. If you store it in the fridge it tastes even better!

That's the one! Store? Not with my hubby around

I'm going to play around with the recipe a bit, maybe add coffee or orange and change the way I mix it - if you get what I mean.

Adding a reply from another angle, and from someone that has the idea "If it doesn't move eat it, if it does move hit it then eat it".
Couple of people in my life have been vegetarian and vegan.
Cooking for and being with someone that is vegetarian is not overly difficult, many sources of information. Vegan on the other hand is somewhat more difficult.

Oddly part of the "difficulty" is from them, the diet is a lot more restrictive and they felt that they were making life overly difficult for anyone else. Going out to eat is not easy, so if you have a social life that will become limited. Oddly I was clearing a home made wine recently and the stuff used didn't qualify as vegetarian or vegan. Cleared the wine almost instantly however.

Sounds as if you are not at the vegetarian stage, the fish in the freezer will be eaten you state. Why the jump to vegan ? It is more restrictive then you may realise.

Will say look at the book Easy Vegan for ideas, and quite a few vegetarian recipes are vegan or can be easily modified. Learn to stir fry - Simple one here - brocolli florets, thinly sliced ginger matchsticks and a sauce of whatever type (Plum sauce is mine). Just heat, oil add ginger, add brocolli, add sauce, throw in bowl, eat.

Honey is one of those areas that is open to arguement, you can use maple syrup if wanted.

It is in Brighton, Bungay, Totnes ... it can be done, but I'm afraid it's the "I don't believe in vegetarianism" brigade that deliberately make it difficult

                      • I don't think they deliberately make it difficult - more like they just don't think (that it can be easy)

                        • There are always things you can eat - Chinese is a good one - some indian - thai - there are vegan/veggie places all over if you look for them.

I suppose if you eat out all the time, its more limiting?

Its NOT restrictive in the home - you just need to change your mindset.

THE ONLY TIME I actually notice this difference is in the staff room at work, because most people will bring in cakes etc, and for christmas dinner I was given a quorn steak!

Ah glad you liked it. I think its similar to a wartime recipe, as they didnt have eggs to use. I use coffee in mine and use vegan icing instead of the frosting. It doesn't last long here either...

                            • Kirk - here's a quote from a previous post of mine as to the reason for changing my way of eating:

"VC - well the main reason why I'm looking into this is because my blood sugar level is 5.9 and I've been led to understand that a non dairy, non animal products diet is the very best to get my sugar levels right down without medication. So that's the only reason I'm cutting out all the animal products. And I have to say that even from just the last couple of days of doing so I feel much better in myself. (Is it all in the mind? - who knows).
Perhaps I'm just being too drastic but I'd like to give it at least 3 months until I'm due for another blood test to see what the effect is".

I'm now getting the hang of eating non-dairy and no animal products a lot more and really enjoying it. I've discovered that I prefer Soya Milk and yoghurt to cow's milk.
I have eaten one piece of fish each week since I started just to use it up out of the freezer (I hate waste!). Once it's gone I won't be replacing it.

Your suggestion of ginger matchsticks and plum sauce in a stir fry sounds lovely - I'll be trying that soon as I love ginger. Thanks to everyone for all the ideas.

                              • I love ginger too LL. In the Chinese supermarket you can buy pickled ginger - thin slices of ginger looking slightly pink, in a glass jar. They're so convenient for lobbing into stirfries. You can also buy jars of "Ginger nuts" - in syrup - they are fantastic
