Anyone had problems ordering from Thompson & Morgan?
i bought 36 begonia plugs from T& M and within 3 weeks all are dead except 2. had them in the greenhouse and portted them up as soon as i received them. emailed them but no answer yet
I bought some begonia plugs from the garden centre and I've not dared put them in the greenhouse which is a pain as the conservatory is rammed!
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
I have all of my bedding plant plugs from T&M in the greenhouse, but it's heated. I wouldn't expect them to survive in an unheated one, as they won't cope with temps below 5c-ish. And it does say that in the 'How to care for...' leaflet which comes with the plants.
I ordered a tree peony from them, it came, but wasn't as described (a strong bareroot plant with 3 branches). I dropped them an email, and although it did take a couple of weeks for them to get back to me (I wasn't in a rush, so didn't phone) they got back in touch and are sending a replacement.
I was looking for the "problem with thread" but search won't do T&M (too short).
I ordered some container plants in April because they were on special offer (silly me), when they hadn't arrived last week I e-mailed asking to cancel 'cos I was away five days as much as anything.
Got back from funeral to find a letter saying terribly sorry couldn't deliver x so will send me some free plugs and here's a voucher. AND will deliver x by April 2014.
Didn't mention y and z that were ordered at same time - still not here.
So half the plugs arrived today.
I've e-mailed again - automatic reply again.
So I think this is bad but I've just been on their web site to see what I might conceiveably want. The nem@slug is twice the price of G@rdening N@turally as are the comfrey pellets. I've looked at a few trees and they are really expensive, too. I object to using even free vouchers on these prices, it feels like legitimising their trading practices.
This company is beyond a joke isn't it? (In fact I think I better go and check what money they have had - don't really want them holding on to it for a year. I wonder if they will still be trading.) :mad :

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!
I discovered that their customer service left a lot to be desired a few years ago. I have never used them since. They keep sending catalogues and e-mails but I have found plenty of alternative suppliers so just ignore them.
A company which doesn't look after it's customers doesn't deserve their business.
If you are not happy that they have fulfilled your order, you could consider either cancelling it with them entirely or if that doesn't work, contact the bank and do an indemnity claim. This will refund your money.

I am waiting to see how they respond so I have the full picture before doing anything else. I really don't like the way nothing happened until I e-mailed to say I wanted to cancel and then they started throwing plants at me by way of "compensation" before I had a chance to say no thanks. Also, I need to read their terms and conditions to see if I did actually agree to having to wait a year for delivery if necessary.
Couldn't happen in Ankh-Morpork, I'd send the golems round!
Many many years ago, about 40, I had some Soya Beans from them as their catalogue of the time declared them, the soya beans, to have been grown as far north as Aberdeen and I was in Wales, well south of there. I planted them with high hopes but none appeared, not a bean.
What T & M had failed to mention was the location, " as far north as Aberdeen" was not actually Aberdeen, in fact it was not even in the UK, so if I were you I would email or phone them and simply ask for your money back and avoid them in future. Needless to say I have never bought from them since.
