Is that what they look like? That garden makes mine seem flat That's what amazed me about Madeira - every available space is cultivated - and irrigated. Construct a terrace - even though its only a few feet wide, then a levada for water, with little sluice gates. Do I remember correctly - that each landowner had a time slot when the water came onto his land - then he shut the sluice and his neighbour had the water.

Yep,they just strip a few leaves off as & when needed, regarding levada's,that is basically how it still works today VC,the really major difference are the modern road network on the south of the island & the large amount of untended terraces as more of the younger generation move away or get involved in tourismLast edited by bearded bloke; 15-03-2013, 08:53 PM.He who smiles in the face of adversity, has already decided who to blame

back to the question of going- Caitlin (4 months) and I will be going tomorrow (Saturday). Look for a solo mum with a big green Stokke pram and that will be me. Do say hi. Even if I'm feeding the little lady while listening to James Wong...
On the subject of cool things, I seed swapped a some lettuce seeds yesterday that had the best name I've seen...Attached Files
