  • high winds last night

    Hi all,

Was anybody affected by high winds last night?

At 11:30pm in Cardiff last night, it sounded like a tornado was whirling past.

    And it rained incredibly hard.

I got out of bed, and had a 'nose' out of my daughters bedroom window, and discovered all the other neighbours peering outside in disbelief as well!!!

    It was horrendous.

Then I looked out of my bedroom window, and noticed that the window and door had blown out of the polycarbonate greenhouse .

I got dressed fast as lightning and went outside equipped with a head torch.

I found the door quickly, and after a short search I found the complete window assembly .

I quickly refitted them and then secured both the window and door with some string.

THen when I got back to bed, the wind and rain had pretty much stopped!

At least the greenhouse is ok.....

We had high winds last night but luckily no damage just a few things got blown around the garden, its good that you got your GH sorted.

Kept awake most of the night on the other side of channel. The only damage was more rubbish in our garden and the chooks' feeder blown all over. They've been picking up pellets from everywhere - given them something to do. Oh, and the raspberry canes needed picking up and straightening.

Still pretty blustery though, rattling our carpy windows.

        High Winds Last Night.

And the night before that and some more to come. We have a blast or two every year at this time with winds getting as high as 60 mph gusting in excess of 70 + mph. High tides mean flooding too in places but the sea scapes are amazing....if you're daft enough to go out in it

Fairly windy here just now, although I did manage to get out into the garden for a few hours before it started. I have a growbag on top of the small plastic "house" holding it in place so will see how long it lasts.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

I have just had another quick look at the greenhouse, and I have a couple of ideas for some permanent modifications to stop the above happening again.

I will post back with some pics when complete (a few weeks away I suspect)...

We had very high winds here, last night, too. With Lightning. No rain or Thunder! I'm surprised there weren't branches blocking roads this morning.

You had me worried CG as I was away. Back now and everything is still standing including the leaning apple tree. Don't scare me like that again

Doesn't seem quite as windy now, but the temperature has dropped. Very, very, cold now. Earlier it was so windy the carpets were lifting because the wind was howling through those vent bricks that run round the bottom of the walls.

                    Sorry to scare you VC!!!

I actually found some stainless steel brackets in work today, and have now fitted them as my first mod on the greenhouse!!!

Hopefully this should stop the door from blowing out again.

The brackets are a little too tight - meaning that I have to push the door in a touch before I slide it. But if it stops the door blowing out, then I am happy.

Look at the top corners of the door.

You know what a sensitive sort I am, CG Maybe you could put a washer or something behind the brackets to give you a bit more clearance. Don't know why I'm saying this as I'm useless at DIY
