  • A bit nervous and a surprise.

Well, today I had an email asking me if I could start work on Monday I did think I'd get a bit more notice, but if their occupational health are happy with my form, that's when they want me. I should hear about that tomorrow, I can't see why they would decide against now, I even had approval from my GP at the career change when I went to see her regarding a 'clicking' hip last week, but still a worry.

On another note, this might help others returning to work. I hadn't realised I might qualify for a grant to remove some 'barriers to work', like clothes suitable for the office, and the fact that I needed to upgrade my insurance to business use as I need the car to go to meetings with tenants. I was told about the possibility of clothes by a representative of a charity workshop I attend. He even phoned my advisor to ask her if she could help. When I went to see her at the Jobcentre today she asked what I'd be doing. I explained, and mentioned having to take evidence of the car insurance, and how much it was going to cost. I was flabbagasted when she popped off to ask her manager, and said they could pay for that too.

I knew there was a back to work payment, although that has halved since last year and disappears altogether in March, but I had never heard about anything else. How long this might still be available is anyone's guess, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

      Tenants?

If your going to work in the rented property market don't forget to ask about armour and/or an extra thick skin.

There are some really nice tenants but the bad ones tend to be really bad.

I'm going to be a Tenant Participation Officer for a local council the still owns it's own houses. The job is to help tenants to organise residents associations, and 'participate' in making decisions about their housing and locality. I will need to help identify sources of funding for them for community projects, organise events and find venues. I'm also to write articles for the newsletter and come up with ideas for and organise training for them in a variety of subjects. I'm just hoping I can get them to participate. That's why I need the car, to travel to the different meetings and events. I think it will prove interesting, and hopefully I won't get too much agro from people.

I did have a bit of a panic early on. When I was sent the email asking me for interview she had attached the wrong document, the job description for a housing officer. When I read it I wondered if I'd gone mad as I was sure I wouldn't have applied for something that bad!

Wow! That's got to be one of the best jobs in housing.
I'd expect lots of evening meetings though.

You'll not get agro but you'll hear about people's problems.

Getting people to participate is hard work though. We've just sent a survey round my street. Have got about 5 back out of 90. One was from the local monsters whose politest suggestion was yachting on the canal.

Well done BS. I'm sure the job willbe interesting. Getting people to participate can be a problem, but getting them to get along when they do.............lol, I live in a very small town and you have to laugh at the interactions.

Great on getting the help you needed too. Hope you really enjoy it.

Well so much for the 'early' start. I'd got my head around it, told people when I'd be starting, then got an email yesterday. My manager isn't going to be in next week, so now it will be 18th. It will give me more time to do the 36 Valentine's cupcake order, and possibly fit in a visit to Hull to see son no1, depending on the weather of course.
Glad I get a parking permit, apparently it's £6.50 a day in the nearest public car park

Well done BS, must be a relief that you're not starting Monday - time to get your head around it. Good Luck Chuck.
