Had to share this...
Had a double period this afternoon with our bottom 2nd year kids (12-13 yr olds).
I was teaching an interactive lesson involving investigating the properties of 3D shapes and had 15 mons left at the end, so I decided to introduce the concepts for the next lesson on Nets of Solids.
I brought out a teaching aid that allows me to slide out a plastic sleeve from each 3D model and was using a pyramid. The Net of this shape is basically a cross made up of 4 triangles with a square in the middle. One of the kids picks this up and examines it for a while, then starts flappinog it like a bird's beak...
"What are you doing there bud?" says I.
"It is like one of those things in the Scooby Doo game..." replied the wee fella.
(Confused look from me: He flaps the thing at me) "Awk!" he said.
"Awk?"
"Aye, I said Awk..."
"Awk?"
"Awk! Aye"
"Awk?" (every other person in the room is now looking at us and wondering where this is going...)
"Yup. Awk!...You know, just Awk"
"Awk? Awk?? Really...? Awk?" I asked
"Aye, Awk, Awk, Awk!"
I said "You sound like a seagull!" (I start making tiny shufflng steps on the spot, look down at my feet, and repeat this behaviour)
"Erm, what are you doing sir?"
"Looking for worms!" (Huge grin, burst out laughing and notice the two ladies that help our kids from SFL have doubled up and are crying with laughter)
Gods, I love my job, but I do need my holidays for the sake if my own sanity...
