Has anyone else noticed how it gets colder towards dawn? For instance, when I got up at 4am my weather station was reading -2C, and registering that as the coldest temp in the last twelve hours. By 5am it was down to -4C. Why doesn't it start to get warmer when it starts to get light?Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
Endless wonder.

On a clear night at sea (or land), the air in the lowest part of the atmosphere cools rapidly due to the dry air content in that part of the atmosphere.
At sea this phenomenon is accelerated due to the lack of surface sea temperatures.
All surface and air radar signals are enhanced at this time of night/early morning due to the surface and lower atmospheric air still rapidly losing heat.
The coldest temperatures has yet to be reached.
A general rule of thumb puts the time of the coldest temperature (on clear nights in either temperate or tropical regions) about an hour after sunrise.
At this time, radar echo "ghosting" is most prevalent.
Not to sure if that answers the question but it's something to do with the "dry air" in the lower atmosphere.
