I suppose horse is OK if you are compiling a "a la carte" menu.
The river Trent is lovely, I know because I have walked on it for 18 years.

It got into the food because there was a demand for very cheap meat. It was hidden because the best supply of cheap meat was horses.

Better to ask why people still demand food at prices that aren't possible for what they want - beef and cod at silly prices, don't be surprised to find you're eating horse and catfish!

'neigh,' it would only have to be 'mainly' 'a la carte'

The time will come when they sell "Meat burgers" and "fish fingers" because they haven't a clue what the individual components are. Since much of it is reclaimed meat and "slurry" its hardly surprising that anything goes.
The worst words to read are "chopped and formed" - as they have on "scampi". The mind boggles

It's not good. I'm sure I read somewhere yesterday (was that on here?) that some professor somewhere has said it has gone beyond findind traces of horse flesh in beef products. The issue has become finding any beef at all.

The 'glue' they use in anything 'chopped & shaped', especially scampi, is a carcinogen.

By the way, heard the latest? The Food Standards Agency is investigating reports that Findus has been putting seahorse in its fish fingers......

Radio 4 Wales, last Friday afternoon - but it may have been a bit tongue in cheek

They are selling ox tongue again in my butchers. Haven't seen it in years. Definitely not a horse's - much bigger than that.

They are now reporting that lamb products are undergoing testing
