Bikes are good for the traditional high street too: people with cars tend to go to Te5c0 and do all their shopping in a one-er.

Cyclists visit local shops more often, make more trips, and help to keep local shops, libraries etc, open. They don't take up parking spaces either.

What I don't understand is when oil prices rise how come petrol stations put up their prices straight away?
Surely they've agreed a price from the supplier for the fuel in their forecourt tanks and would have at least 30 day accounts!
      That IS profiteering.

The thing that really annoys me most about all this is diesel being more expensive than petrol.

Diesel is a flippin by product of producing petrol from crude oil! For every 7 gallons of petrol they make, they get something like 4 gallons of diesel rich sludge which is then re refined into diesel fuel.

My other half works in the oil industry. If you're enraged by the price at the pump, you ought to see the waste and profligacy that goes on behind the scenes, esp higher up the corporate ladder: over-inflated wages, expenses fiddling, tax avoidance ... it makes the MPs look like amateurs.
