They've just rung and I've asked them to record the fault as "open" since I expect it to happen again. Since very few people know my mobile number - I'd better tell a few of the important ones what it is, just in case

Do you have a dial tone ?
We had the same problem last week. Turns out it was a lightening strike which took out one wire for a huge area - so people still had broad band. I'm with Or@ng3 and have always been really impressed with their service until this last month when I lost the phone twice through snow (which was understandable) and then the lightening.

I started nice but after 35 - 50 minutes (on three occasions) spent trying to get through and, despite pressing the right buttons always ending up with someone who couldn't help me or even listen to what I was saying, I fetched out what my kids call the killer sentence......."I know it's not your fault but I have to warn you that I am very, very angry .......". Trouble is I can hear my lot sniggering in the background - usually works though. I even got to get the "Difficult Customer Background Music" this last time. Also told them to stop texting me to ask me what I thought of their service and to start taking action on what I said previously.

We looked after the lovely engineer from dear old Coventry when he arrived. He was very dismissive of the local engineers and actually fixed three faults that had been bodged over the years!

You really have to stick out for not being responsible for anything the other side of the white box BUT apparently if you get struck by lightening and it takes your white box out you do have to pay for that (£90 +VAT) last time it happened to us. (I did get it waved!)

As an aside - the best fun was when a neighbour had BT broadband installed and some of us ended up with each others phone numbers and of course they couldn't test for a fault cos all the phone lines worked - just in the wrong house!

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!
