The description also exactly fits plaque psoriasis,which is what I have had in varying degrees for some years,the strangest thing was that it completely disappeared for two years after I gave up smoking.
It was very itchy drove me a little batty (not unusual VC) but now no the symtoms have really subsided. But I would really like to get it fully cleared up though I realise this may not be possible. I was in fact about to go down the GP route

I would take it to your GP, but they will more than likely hand you a scrip for Betnovate or some such other. UV light is used in serious cases. Oilatum helps with itchyness - oily bath stuff. Balneum is another. You will be beautifully soft if you start using them - as an upside
Oatmeal in a sock rubbed onto the area works and takes out the itchiness or hang it over the hot bath tap and let the water run through it when you run a bath.
