Two_Sheds The road in my video clip (above) is constantly parked up:
It looks like our school only difference is your road are alot wider
And you can walk on the pavements. Can't understand why the police are
So reluctant to give out parking tickets.

The police patrolled yesterday it was great the walk to school was as it should be.
    today back to usual.

Just got a reply from the council

been trying to get yellows lines extended around a corners near school
And new line on other corners to allow safe crossing point at junctions

driver park on blocking access on and off the pavements
the highway code says 243 say no parking within 10m of a junction.
We have no visible restrictions (yellow lines) at the moment
So people park on the corners.

The council are refusing to paint yellow due to a legal issue
If the council extend the yellow lines they become responsible for the enforcement
And due to the current climate they cannot provide enforcement.
The council also consider this to be a low priority.

We've had several articles in the local paper asking drivers to park with more consideration.
This has had no difference whatsoever.

FOI request their parking enforcement info.
        Locations, times etc.

Is it all parents parking badly?
        incredibly frustrating.

          You got that in writing?
Unless I'm mistaken they also have a duty of care to the school pupils. That'll be a different department.
If you have it in writing send a copy of it to the head man/woman on the council (mark the envelope for his/her personal attention) askign if they are satisfied that if there is a death outside a school their council has taken sufficient precautions to prevent it? As for a copy of their risk assessment. (They should treat the request for the risk assessment as an FOI and respond within 20 working days.)

They could put a physical barrier in place which prevents people parking on the pavement, doesn't need enforcement and ensures little people can't accidentally stray into to road. Or they could undertake enforcement and gain some income.

Obviously I can't comment specifically on your case but it sounds similar to the school opposite to us. The road is quite busy and used as a cut through. Most children, despite being local, are driven there. Our drive is regularly blocked and cars launched on our side of the road whilst parents get their kids into school. All these vehicles make viability very poor and kids are appearing from between them, often while the parent appears to be looking the other way. There have been loads of complaints and there is now a regular community plod presence but it makes no difference as they don't do anything. Heaven help us if we want to go out in the car at that time as I've often had a mouthful off somebody when I've asked them not to park across our drive. Apparently they have a right to do it if they want, yeah right.....

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

A FOI request asking for distances from school would be interesting. I know our local primary is oversubscribed and even kids who live really close can't get in because people who have moved away keep their kids (and then siblings) in.
There's one been done for school near me asking 1 mile, 3 miles...
I think some serious rejigging needs to happen to make things fairer. Local schools for local kids. No kid should ever need to be driven to school.

I'm pretty confident that most of the kids are local, there are 3 (or possibly even 4 if you include the posh one you pay for) primary schools within easy walking distance from my house and although the one opposite me gets good reviews, one of the others is the "school of choice". I can understand that some of them are being dropped off as their parents go to work and don't have a problem with that but do have a big problem with the inconsiderate use of cars and the chaos caused by the bad parking - well to be honest it's not really parking, more abandoning.

Most of the kids live within walking distance but about 80% are driven to school.
The school children who are driven to school and everywhere have very little road sense.
I've seen quite a few near misses with kids running out between parked cars and running
around cars parked on the pavements and across junctions.
The only reason that don't get run over is because traffic is grid locked or slow moving
And kids are more likely to be squashed like mine was on the pavement.

The health and safety statement say children should be able to walk to school in reasonable safety
And the council are now in the process of removing lollipop men .
Traffic wardens are responsible for parking enforcement on the zig Zags lines and any yellow line
Not sure if the CPO can issue tickets or traffic wardens for obstruction
                  Think thats only police.
So basically you can park where you like

I hate to say it but I am not surprised. I have to pass a few schools every day on the way to work and some of the parking I have seen is shocking. I have even had someone just stop in the middle of the road to let their kid out by the school gate, caused a wonderful traffic jam but they appeared completely oblivious to the chaos they caused. It is always someone elses fault to these people never theirs.
