A mattock? We use ours loads - I think they're brilliant. Your arms and shoulders do the work then, and not your legs. They make potato trenches a doddle, and we've cleared many an overgrown and gnarly bed using them. This is a bargain Silverline GT52 Digging Hoe: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools.

I know someone else who does.......
There's a guy at work who has just taken on a lottie , I asked him how it was going and the answer was he was waiting to get it rotovated ......why do people think you can't work a plot without it being rotovated .
