Anyway, I was driving no more than 50mph, when I spotted a Magpie, I accelerated to a good 54 mph and surprised it that it frozen in the middle if my lane. We went whoooosh straight over it, looking in the mirrors, there he was still sitting on the road happy as larrry. I recon he ducked down.
I think I have seen two dead magpies on the roads since I've been driving. How on earth they've been killed I don't know, cause they're too fast and clever for me.
Coincidentally, I have just found, out via an email from the DD ten mins ago, that a former boss and arch enemy of hers has finally, finally, been caught out for his misdemeanors against his birds. The toad even stole one of her birds, although we did get in back eventually. Sadly, they didn't do him for cruelty or neglect, which they should've done. The story is in the Weston Mercury, if anybody wants to read more.Jules

Evening All. Didn't even manage to pop in this morning which is unusual of a week day. Found myself stranded on an uninhibited island first thing. Cool and dull here with threatening rain, so the bistro set is still in its box. Where is this heat wave? I've booked Friday and Monday off, so it had better put in an appearance. That looks nice BrenGranny on the Game in Sheffield

Sorry if i have upset ppl. I will try and explain myself clearly without humour. Strangely as it may seem now to ppl here i am a massive animal lover, but in the same sentance will say i think Magpies are awful birds, granted they may look nice and do a tidy job as removing dead kills and meat going off. I have had experiences of them flying down and picking off ducklings following their mum down to the river. Hearing the baby ducklings screaming off in the distance not nice, granted i suppose its nature and we cant have all ducklings surviving, cant help it but hate these birds. Ive had them walking around my fish vats catching Sml golden orfe and flying off with them costing me a fortune and lastly they are hated by bird lovers who want to incourage soundbirds to the garden, they are terrible for taking chicks out of nests and can actually terrorise and move on alot of birds on, so ive been told my two ppl who maintain large gardens and have actually used these large humain cages with a bird in oneside to catch another the otherside.
I see how my behaviour now is shocking, i didnt honestly think i would of hit, i wonder what would of happened if i had had hit it, bet i wouldnt of found it funny, nor have joked about it on this forum.
I apologise, Jon.Please don't tap the glass

I don't like magpies much either, because of the way they rob other birds nests etc - but there is no way that I could kill one. I'm sure if you had hit it, the person whose car you were driving wouldn't have been very impressed either
I know you won't joke about it again and you've been man enough to explain yourself so I like you again

I have driven on loads of roads and like others probably have seen plenty of the crow family, eating away at corpses on the road. How clever and brilliant their timing is to get out of the way unharmed and to be back to the meal in seconds.
For me, it was more a surprise that it not only didnt get out of the way, but it just stood there. Unfortunately i find humour in most scenarios and have a habit of sometimes putting my size 14's in it.
Im not looking for forgiveness, merely acknowledging that i have upset some members on this forum. Please don't tap the glass
