  • You could always use my line from about fifteen years ago when my particularly obnoxious boss required my presence at another equally obnoxious colleague's leaving do. "I'm busy!" I haven't told you when it is yet..."I'm still DEFINITELY busy."
Or make something up. "I'm so sorry I can't be with you on ****day, but I have two men on the go and on ****days I'm with *****!" They will be so stunned, it will give them something else to think about. Well hubby and Jake makes two fellas innit
I have three on the go!

    • Evening All......Quite sunny one, but breezy and threatening nastiness.

Thank you all for your good wishes - I've passed them on.

Just back from Bristle. Much improvement although no definite date for home time. Progress is steady, but the staff aren't letting him do too much at once so we've got frustration building. Scans tomorrow to check the head pressure and the current state of play in the slipped bits. He was much more himself today, but horribly tired - still very shocked, I think. This is, so far, the nearest we've been to what the future could hold if'n the BH isn't very careful - bit of a shot across the bows. All it could take to bring on permanent waist-down paralysis is one more fall like this one, there is no place for complacency.

My boys buried the cat whilst we were out, and put a nice plum tree as a marker. They did it without asking and I am mightily relieved not to have to do it. Not going visiting tonight - extra rest is needed all round. I was planning to watch tv but the Sky dish has gone phut. Engineer booked for Sunday pm.

Going to watch a movie with my APs instead, over snacky cheese & biscuits, olives etc.

Wine, anyone? Good oh, pour one out for me too.......and one for Binners - that sucks, Bins, you need a new job....(((Hugs)))

      • I've just remembered that a few years ago one of my "colleagues" called me a mardy cow in the middle of a meeting because I wouldn't join the managers at their Christmas meal. "Much as I like you all, I spend more than enough time with you at work and I prefer to choose who I spend time with outside of it." That's why they haven't asked me since.

        • Bins...definitely complain... You should not have to face all those people at your review... Tell them 1 you should have been asked about other people attending and that you would probably have said no because it is supposed to about feedback between you and your manager.. The way they set it up was like some sort of disciplinary meeting which you would have had to have prior notice from them off... And in that case you would be entitled to have someone else there.. What a shower....
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

          • I am going to tackle my line manager on Tuesday when I'm next in work. Tell her I want to speak in private as my appraisal should've been . Point out a few facts and also tell that I've never felt so intimidated and humiliated as that in any job. Also I want to know who had their knives out because I have to work with these people and it doesn't exactly do much for team spirit if we're going to be suspicious of each other . Also say that if the next one is under the same circumstances I am having an 'observer' in with me.......
I'm sure if she'd had hers with her line manager and assistant and the chief exec she'd have felt intimidated as well.........
Going to speak to the union rep too plus am looking but there's not a lot that either I am qualified for or part time......
This was only the second appraisal I've ever had in my working life and just haven't a clue how these things should happen. If I'd been clued up things my have been different..
Wish I was still in my old job but she had to make people redundant

              • Quick q... Did you have any performance/interim reviews prior to your appraisal? Were your objectives clearly defined at beginning of your year?

If done correctly, you should already know how you appraisal should go. You should talk at least 70/80% and you should be selling how you did versus your objectives

I agree - in working for Yanks for nearly twenty years, objective setting, appraisals - both yearly and mentorship were de rigeur. They were also complete ********! You cannot be appraised on your performance, if NO objectives were set in the beginning, so sounds like some idiot is implementing something they don't fully comprehend. In order to measure something, there needs to be parameters set.
                              Pillux!

I forgot to add - training plan - where is it? Every year, a training plan needs to be part of the objective setting/appraisal programme. Come on girl - push back on these a**holes and tell them how it's done!
