  • A good idea at the time.

Got up this morning and decided that today I would paint the little room.
    No problem there, you say.
One hour later and I am running up and down to the shed to get the ladder, the paint brushes, paint, paint tray, stick to stir the paint, brush cleaner, rags to mop up any unlikely spills, cloth to cover the floor, tape to go round the window and old clothes to wear in case I paint myself.
By the time I actually dipped the brush in the paint I had lost most of my enthusiasm.
Why does everything take so long?

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

      I have the same issues

Now, whenever I do a bought of DIY I leave my tools in the location where they're needed so I can just crack on.

Sometimes though I see my 16 month old wandering around with screwdriver/saw/hammer/whatever and then start to either unscrew sockets, saw the wall or hammer the doors. Heart in mouth moments, for her safety- and my own.. if my wife saw she'd wring my neck! Little beggar can get up everywhere though - so even i theyre on taables, she'll help her self!

That's why Baby/Stair/Dog gates were invented, Chris. I bought two, really cheaply on the 'Bay. Only had to go a couple of miles to collect them, too, and they are invaluable for keeping the Dog (and the two visiting dogs at the time) out of certain rooms. Saves a heck of a load of cleaning/tidying, too!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that takes soooooo looooong to get everything ready!

I have them all over the house !! Its my fault currently as all my tools are in their "playroom". Gotta get cracking soon as I want to get the house completed by June - thats my goal.. so I can start to plan the garden, in time for some autumn planting and work.

If my tools are left lying about Chris, my missus leaves them outside the front door for me to put in the garage. If it rains they get wet!!!!

It takes me at least 30 minutes to prepare to do even the smallest jobs around the house, if only I could have a man room.....

It would have a work bench, pillar drill, circular saw and table top saw, planer and thicknesser, walls clad with panels and all tools hung up neatly, steel filing drawers filled with all manner of accessories......ahhh heaven.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

When I was repapering the stairs I got called out halfway through. I threw the paste brush into hot soapy water, rolled up all the paper bits very quickly and dashed out.

Next day, I went to pick up where I left off, only to discover someone had tidied for me. All the paste had been poured away, the odd lengths of paper (out of print Laura Ashley, rarer than hen's teeth) had been put in the recycle .....luckily the paper was still dry and usable, but I had to waste half a day going to get more paste.

And then some wretch - the same one who threw the paste - will walk in and say 'Cor....you not finished yet?'

                Most miffing

Well Nicos, its going very well. In fact it went so well that I decided to paint the front bedroom as well.
The little room is painted in a buttery cream color with white paintwork and a peachy and cream colored set of curtains. The front bedroom is currently being painted a pale lilac and hopefully will be finished by the weekend.
This is all happening while I am picking out flooring and a new kitchen which I hope will be complete by the middle of April.
After all this I am not spending any more money on my house. I am going to spend it on holidays instead.
                        That's if there's anything left.
