    • Picking up a metal coldframe from Freecycle. No glass but that's easily sorted. Another bit of garden goes under cover!!

      • Waking up at 4.45 and going to lottie! Packed in several hours of work before 8.00 and it was beeeautiful down there, a blue and pink sky and loads of birds about. Also the King of our allotment site came down the path at 7.00 walking his dogs and complimented me on my plot! He also, very kindly, gave me a load of celery, sprout and kale seedlings surplus to requirements.

        Bit cream crackered now, though...

        • A few weeks ago I discovered a wee nectarine on my tree, I was so excited about it and was showing it off to anyone who ventured onto my plot. The last person to come and admire it had a good rummage under the branches and found another, bigger one that I didn't know was there

Though I must say I feel the same... my tomatoes are so puny this year I'm considering giving up growing them altogether in future. Are they really worth the effort when you haven't got a proper greenhouse?

Yes!!! Undercover makes a huge difference, I don't buy any tinned tomatoes. Reduced down and packed in portions in the freezer lasts me a whole year for bolognaise, stews, casseroles etc!

                            • Well, we'll just have to move house then, to make room for a g/house and a huge freezer! There are worse reasons to move...

Before I had my GH I used to grow two tom plants on my south facing kitchen windowsill, they made it a bit dark in the room but it was worth it for the toms.
