Half the kids aren't entering secondary education unable to read and write And 'traditional values' tended to involve kids being written off because they didn't fit into the 'academic' mould... Teaching/education is never going to be perfect, but I don't think we need a return to secondary moderns, the 3 Rs, canes and uber discipline.

Oooh Jules, that pretty heavy! And then there's eating your own arm....is it cannabilism if it's your own arm you eat? Really?
      And the curry/bladder issue.

      Sorry, I just got sidetracked.

My rant is.........I almost got the vet paid off again, almost. So I now have more penecillin for Le Spot Just in Le Case. And some other stoof, and the end of the last bill. I paid for the whole flippin lot in one go. I just feel the need to have it all paid, so we don't have to 'go there again'.
      Hope the cheque doesn't bounce

No, no....he was whingeing about what was on the walls; lots sciency things, and collages with crayon, paint & glitter. One the one hand (his) he's saying that's all boringly traditional and on the other he's moaning about there being no traditional things like times tables etc etc. This is a reception class....

I don't think I said anything about him making sense.....

There is some official chit that says that 51% of kids in the North Somerset area are starting their secondary education well below the average standard for their age in literacy and mathematics.

FFS Facebook! You are a fabulous resource and you mean that I can connect with friends throughout the globe at any time of night or day. That's brilliant! But please, just cos I'm 45 and a little curvy (which you clearly know from my input) do NOT assume that I want 'one weird old tip' on how to lose weight or have any interest in '50 year old woman looks 25' or any other nonsense adverts that proclaim that youth and (percieved) beauty are what every woman desires. I delete and mark as 'offensive' every time but they still keep on coming! Argh!

A proper rant this time. I'm furious. My grandad is 93 but still lives independantly in his own house. For the most part he copes very well but he pays a company that promises immediate help when he needs it. This isn't cheap but he did it beliveing that it gave him the security of knowing there'd be someone there for him without him becoming a burden on family, friends or the state. This morning he had a 'turn' and called them. Their response? They rang a neighbour he'd given as an emergency contact and asked her to go round and help him out! He could have done that himself! How dare they take an old man's money and then pass the job they've been paid for on to someone else to do for free?Argh!!!

Ma phoning up to suggest a new venue for a craft fair. No, Ma, I'm not going there again, yet. So stop it - if your hints get any heavier they'll need gastric bands....

And I know that venue, it's too far from anywhere to be any good, especially at their rates.
