Our painting contractor just came in to the office to say "You've got a squatter at ** address" and showed us a picture of the hooooooogest spider you've ever seen. The picture was taken against a skirting board and the spider is as high as the skirting board. He said the legs were easily the span of his hand and he could actually see the "fangs" and the hairs on its legs, it tried to run under a door but couldn't get through a gap of about 3/4 inch. We asked what he'd done with it and he said he'd left it well alone. Not sure whether to warn the tenants (it was in a shared tenament lobby).
He said someone told him it was a wolf spider, my colleague googles it and says it can paralyze a 5 Stone dog (I have a 5 stone dog).
We're now both sittiing here with our skin crawling. Should have asked him to forward the pic so I could share it with you.
Eldest GG is doing Textiles and Design. She was halfway through making a cushion (reminded me somewhat of you Jules) when her whole folder of work went missing from the classroom a couple of months ago. She had to re-do all the work for her portfolio and was halfway through the cushion again last week (she was sewing sequins and bunting on it at my house last Saturday) and "lost" the cushion again on Tuesday. She's very organised so it's really unlike her and I can't help thinking that someone in her form has had a hand in it's going missing. She's a lovely girl and makes it very clear that she's not interested in experimenting with drugs, tobacco, or alcohol as a lot of her classmates are prone to do. She has to submit her work next week and has had to start the cushion all over again for the third time. Had to share just to get it off my chest. Think I might buy her a sewing machine so she can work at home instead of school, but it's too late for this project

I think he's having you on - Wolf spiders don't get that big. There's a story going round FB at the moment snopes.com: Angolan Witch Spider
Flo, that sounds very familiar - I had projects, fabrics and threads go missing at school. It's such a pain, and soooo frustrating. I made an heirloom project - a 1940s style crepe de shine blouse with peter pan collar, gathered puff sleeves and hand-shirred yoke - and one of the girls in my class deliberately scorched it with the iron because I stood to knock her off the top spot. When my Ma complained, the head of dept said 'Well, we did give her a detention....' So what? It didn't help me any. I feel for your GG.
Now, would anyone like my headache? I cannot shake it. Woke up with it about 5am, took a Solpadol and it went, but came back a few hours later and it's bugging my happiness. It's vice-like and feels like it might develop into a migraine. Any takers, I'm fed up with it now?
Thanks rusty - someone else he showed the picture to had told him it was a wolf-spider, the pic is genuine (the floor tiles and decor show its our block) but I did a bit of googling myself and I'm pretty sure it's a house spider, just a bloody big one. Apparently the wet weather is causing spiders to get much bigger. It probably normally lives in the sheds at the back but has come in to the block because of the cold snap.
Went to the bank this afternoon to pay in some cheques and cash.
Also needed to take out some cash.
So...here in the land of de-stress.....I know that you can't take out cash over the counter after 12.00....so I took our debit card...all good so far...BUT....
Yup- I could pay in the cheques...but no....no cash payments in after 12.00 either
Urrrmmm...sorry I thought a bank would love to grasp hold of any cash it could in this day and age
Apparently to do with security on site.
