  • Bit of footie chit-chat anyone?

I dunno how many of you are into your football, but this is a little side-chat which started on another thread - thought it might fit better in the chat thread!
Have to say, I'm fairly ecstatic with the finish my team have had this season!

Can cope wi that, s'long as we top the Premiership first...!
Sounds like you might be getting Big Sam? That'd be good, the derby be worth watching!
Altho, since moving to Yorkshire, I find myself wanting Newcastle (and Middlesbro) to do well - so many ppl round here support Man U - what's that all about?! Have some affinity with the place you come from, for heaven's sake! The more local teams could really do wi supporters - Leeds, Bradford, but no, lets only support the ones who already winning....
Sunderland were my Grandad's team (they used to provide lodging for some players back in the 60's), my Dad's team, and they beat Leeds in the FA cup on my 1st birthday. Wouldn't matter to me if they were in the Conference, they'd still be my team...
    Rant over....

D'you think we should have a footie thread in Chit-Chat?

like the idea of a footie thread. growing veggies is only one of my pastimes.

it is always the same with people supporting the team that is doing well, when i was growing up in cornwall, every one in the school supported liverpool, because they were the ones winning, whilst i supported both Plymouth Argyle (nearest league team, geographically speaking) and also supported Arsenal (the family has links to Arsenal, had a great uncle that played for them in the 20's and 30's)

not much to brag about this year for both teams, but the summer transfers are going to be interesting again, will Henry, Fabregas, Denilson, Van Persie, Wenger, the burger seller, cleaner etc be tempted to move to spain, italy, crapski, etc. get sooooooooo bored of the rumours all the time.

still our girls did great today, something to cheer about

Be interesting to see who ends up signing for Sunderland over the summer, apparently Roy's already got his list ready, but obviously he's 'sayin nowt' at the moment. The team's pretty good as it is - they've definately got goal scorers - but to come up and stay up... they gonna have to get some top class!

        These are some of the rumours so far;
Sunderland and Everton are targeting Preston striker David Nugent and Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton. (Daily Mirror)

Sunderland are poised to make a £2m offer to Celtic for out-of-favour Thomas Gravesen. (The Sun)

Have to say, I could live without Joey Barton... Trouble?!

I think the problem with glory supporters in Yorkshire is the lack of decent local football. I'd class myself as a Leeds fan but not a supporter as I don't go often enough. I do have good excuse though having moved over 200 miles from Leeds!

Having said that I went once this year (Leeds v Hull) and it cost over £35 a ticket. The standard was appalling and the game finished a 0-0 washout. I can totally understand why people want to watch the likes of Man U etc because you may at least feel you're getting value for money. Its so easy to cristicise when your teams in the top league or winning and the supporters come flooding back but when you're down and out is it worth it? After all its entertainment for the most part not a religion! If you look at Yorkshire there are so few decent teams for such a huge area. Comapre to the north west, midlands and south east and its a joke. Still fingers crossed for the Leeds bounce back next season (I'm interested to see what the ticket prices will be though)...

As for Sunderland you've done amazing this season and Keane is an instant hero. Its deserving for a team with such support and good luck to you next season. Hopefully with the big money in the Premiership you can some good investments and have a decent run.

Mr OWG is a staunch Blackpool fan and is really excited (and worried) about them being in the playoffs.

I'm an equal opportunities supporter, and generally fall asleep if football is on TV!

David Nugent would be a good buy for sunderland, if he stays in form for a long period, you could even manage to stay up this time (just joking) as for Joey Barton, he's trouble alright, but might be just the player for you. Keano has obviously seen something in him that reminds him of someone!!!

perhaps they could sell tickets to the training ground bust ups.
