When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
I haven't a clue what the dimensions are but I had some sturdy cardboard tubes that were the innards of rolls of carpet. It was so thick that you had to saw them into lengths.
I started my runner beans in them (quite deeply), then planted the whole thing out against the canes so that the beans had some protection and support in their first few days.
They're not huge carpet roll ones. I got one off the same bloke last week and ended up putting wrapping paper in it to keep it tidy - so I know they're useful!
I'd thought of carrots/parsnips but wasn't sure how long the tube would last. Probably worth a try for carrots but parsnips stay a lot longer!
Now. Have I got any carrot seed? I don't think I have.
I'd be tempted to cut them into 2"-3" lengths & use them as collars........I use similar size drainpipe round my Brassicas.
