Mine is in the spare wheel well, with the spare wheel, under the rear floor, under the rear floor mat, under my boot-liner. Then, depending on what I'm planning on doing at t'other end of the journey, it is either under my tools, or under the dog bed, under the dog!

It can ruddy stay there - if it goes in a ditch, I'll leave the ruddy thing there and buy a Land Rover!

      Any excuse...

There in lies my point The owners handbook will explain where the tow points are if permanantly fixed,it will also explain where & how to fit the removable eye.

Sort of, I thought that you were concerned that people might be caught out (weather not just annoying sleety round here so not that bad) by not having one fixed therefore not be towable. My point was that I know where mine is and it's attached as it has been on all the cars I've owned so why would I be aware that this is not always the case?

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Reporting back I was confused with the rear towing eye which is fixed. The handbook says the front towing eye is in the vehicle tool kit (?). To fit it I need to remove part of the protective grill.
This really is all news to me - so thanks BB. I've never even thought about it before

Alison,if you read the original post it says ........ Find & fit ......... if yours is permanently attached then it rather precludes the need to .... Find & fit

They are mainly fitted to modern vehicles with plastic type bumpers. You will find a round cap in the bumper and the 'screw eye' is usually with the car jack. No VC that jacks a tool not a bloke.

I'm thinking something very norty but dare not............
I have to remove a section of grill that is inset in the front bumper. I'll look in the morning but not sure that I dare try to remove it. I'm not very good at replacing things
