I full expected there to be a British Gas markup. They came this morning and gave me a quote of £3.3k to replace with one of their standard boilers.

I have a local bloke coming this evening to give a quote and am looking at a couple more.

I hope that you'll have a go at BG for trying to sell you a new boiler when you didn't need one - just a bit of Potty magic!

Not magic I assure you, just a good working knowledge and honesty.

As regards to BG. People should be aware that when one of their so called engineer's visit (a) They ain't that good anymore, the days of a full 5 year apprenticeship are long gone. They get as little as 6 months training these days so have no in depth knowledge. (b) And this is the kicker, should you take their advice and have a new boiler fitted they get a healthy commission, another reason for their stupidly high prices.
