  • Unda Da Sea...

Ok, so it's Lowen's sixth birthday in a couple of weeks and as she is very into Mermaids at the moment, we are having an, "Under the Sea" themed party for her and twenty of her fellow mermaids. Have decided on the cake (I'm having SUCH FUN with fondant!), and some great food ideas (Starfish-shaped sandwiches, jelly boats, sweet pepper Octopus "legs" etc). We've got a Shark Pinata, a bubble machine and are going to have green crepe paper "sea weed" hanging from the ceiling, twinkly lights and blue tissue paper over the windows to make it suitably under-watery.
What we are scratching about for now are appropriate games. We have a shelled shaped sand pit - one side of which we are going to fill with water and make into a fishing game, the other we'll fill with sand and use as a Lucky Dip for the prizes. Musical bumps etc will be to the songs from The Little Mermaid.
I've voted for "Sea Breeze" Cocktails for the mums..
    Any further ideas gratefully considered!

You could play pin the leg on the octopus? Like tail on the donkey but much easier for 6 year olds and simple to make with some cardboard and cellotape.

How about some jellyfish to hang among the seaweed?

You could convert "hot potato" into "pass the seashell" A large scallop shell or similar would probably work best. Everyone sits in a circle and passes the shell around the circle while music plays. When the music stops the one holding the shell is out. The last child left is the winner.

Get them to make Mermaid tails, for their feet, out of hessian sacks, then have a sack race.
