Gurgle seems to think that the 'carcinogen' issue has not been proven. Would be interested to read any info VVG may have links to, ta very much.

On the other side of the coin, I certainly grow things because they have an interesting name.

My 'Harold Idle' peas have germinated today and I will be sowing 'Fringe Headed Drunken Woman' lettuce this year too (ta VC!)

Yes, it does. I only know this because Mr.G buys it.

                  That woman always buys it.

How do I know it has carcinogens? I worked for the guys who wrote the COSHH reports

Do you want carcinogenic material on your eating utensils? I don't, but you have a choice. It's like parabens in your shampoo innit?!

I do that too Hazel - My Drunken Woman is growing her fringe as we speak. I also chose Lazy Housewife beans - I don't need to explain why.

Guys - you need to watch less TV.

Beer should have daft names - Mr PP is very keen on Skull Splitter (from Orkney?) which quickly becomes Skill Splatter after one too many.

Marketing is working cos you are remembering the names, but are just too discerning to buy! Most folks will just buy the things they have heard of.

I don't watch TV PP, and I mean *never*! The plant names in the first post, I came across while browsing a certain seed merchant's website because I have a voucher to spend I don't mind quirky names so much, that actually mean something, it's the ones that could be labeled as 'zany!' that seem to wind me up. Like I said, it's probably a form of snobbery, but so help me if I ever buy a tomato called 'tomazing' I'll shoot myself...

I certainly wasn't aware the was a problem with carcinogens with any washing up liquid. Why don't these things get made public. I suppose the argument is that it's a non issue because most folks will rinse off the suds but who knows. Hope the mods don't think we're tangentising this thread. This is a serious issue
