They've never done this with me, how odd, although we are talking a long time since I was with them. We get special rates now through company scheme and that's RAC.
Good luck with your conversation

Unreasonable contract conditions means a contract is unenforceable in law, i.e. they just made any legal claim they had to the money they were trying to take invalid.
I am not a lawyer, but the reasonability test they would have to pass in court is what the "average man in the street" would find resonable. As someone who is pretty much Joe Average when it comes to looking at stuff like this, I would find this unreasonable. I am fairly sure that a court would too.

Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999. Office of Fair Trading is obliged to investigate any complaints.

We managed to stop it and the account doesn't exist any more. It's other people who might chuck the letter away that might end up paying that I'm persuing this for.
Presumably this is a Direct Debit? Just tell your bank to cancel the DD.
Then write to the Information Commissioner and tell them the AA are retaining personal data they no longer require (i.e. your bank account details). You might want to start by writing to the AA asking their data protection officer why they have retained that information first.

I don't have to as the account doesn't exist and hasn't for a number of years.
This isn't a data commissioner issue. It's an FSA and secret procedure issue, a way of scamming money out of people by pretending they asked to have their account suspended rather than cancelling their membership.
Mr Z is currently up the wall in rage so I thought I'd just tip off the Grapes.
He got a letter from the AA saying that they will be taking money out of our account for our AA breakdown.
On a car that was scrapped 3 years ago and we haven't been with them since.
Upon calling them - apparently if you cancel your AA membership - they automatically reinstate it after 3 years and just take the money.
So if you get an envelope - and think 'it's the AA, just a circular' and chuck it out - don't! As you might find yourself out of pocket for something you never wanted in the first place.
P.s....she didn't call it 'cancelled' she called it 'suspended'.
Very very poor show AA. Sneaky and to be honest, totally dishonest behaviour.
I'm off now to scrape him off the walls as I think he has exploded with rage.
Hello, we're sorry to hear you're unhappy. We would like to address this with you. Please email the details including your full name, address, membership number and reference FOR40028 to chat@theaa.com. Regards, The AA
The AA don't really like you to leave when we did they couldn't believe that we could get more for the
£139 they wanted to charge us and they wouldn't come out to my car because it was in my own post code even though i reversed it off the drive and 30 yards later it went bang. said the call out would be home start and that wasn't included in my £139 .................
