Don't forget that they are a road lobby who just happen to do a good line in rescue, too. I would never give them my custom for that reason.

It's easy enough to solve if you have internet banking services, just look at your list of direct debits and if anything is still showing which shouldn't be, cancel it. I just looked at mine and the AA house insurance we changed in November last year was still on the list, so I've removed it. Bank won't let them do anything sneaky then

NOT of course that anyone should have to do that, it's obviously wrong, wrong, wrong what they've done.

I had a problem recently with a credit card company that I hadn't used their card for about 13 months, and then I decided to start using them again, when the payment was due it defaulted as the direct debit had be suspended by my bank.

Its worth checking with your bank, mine will not honour a direct debit request if it has been dormant for 12 months, so in the case of the AA after three years they couldn't reactivate a payment that far down the line as my bank wouldn't allow it.

I should really engage my brain in posts..

The AA don't always use DDs, they use continuous payment so they can just take what they want, when they want.

What's that? Thankfully not something I've come across. Is it via a card rather than bank account?

Lol that really doesn't surprise me. I work at a garage, so we regularly have the AA drop of vehicles with us and they always give a diagnosis of the problem. Its never right bless them.

I think it's quite telling that the AA seem to have invested in having a person/department or internet search bot to trawl the internet looking for people complaining about them on forums...

The supervisor who took my call - [ooh sorry who was brought to the phone when I asked whether this was a scam] - is looking into it. He has 14 days to prove that my OH specifically asked for a suspension rather than a cancellation. Otherwise I'm off to the FSA.

Could you not just explain what could possibly have happened? Better still post a link to the term or condition that relates to 'Suspension of policy procedure' which is not available either in the terms and conditions booklet that you sent this week, or in the terms and conditions download that I downloaded this week.

You can set up bots to do it I think. But it still needs to alert someone.
