  • Rivelin vally sheffield

    Hi
I paid a visit to my old allotment site at the weekend on Hag hill, Rivelin valley Sheffield.
When I had a plot there, some five years ago, it was mostly derilict with just me and the "two johns" adjoining, in the end both plots were vacated due to persistant vandalism, I had my shed burnt down and having the greenhouse smashed was the last straw for the two johns, who moved higher up the hill to a more populated area.
    Anyway on
my visit it was great to see virtually all the Hag hill plots back in use and a hive of activity, even the most heavilly wooded plots had been cleared.
I went up the hill to find the two johns but sadly no one could point me in the right direction.
I now have two plots in Rotherham and would like to wish all the new allotmenteers on Hag hill the very best.

It's absolutely wonderful that this site has had so many dedicated allotmenteers putting in so much hard work. It is a little too far out for me but have been readin g posts about it on the gardening group on the sheffield forum

Yes, the Hagg Hill allotmenteers have done a fantastic job. I'm just across the road in Rivelin and hope that this allotment site will also see some regeneration. It was interesting to see the article in the local paper about the lack of allotments! There are loads in the valley but very few that are attractive to the prospective allotment holder. It could really do with a JCB clearing 20 or so plots to get something going.

Although I've lived in London for the last 20 odd years, I was born and brought up in Sheffield and spent many happy hours of my childhood in the rivelin valley. I remember those old allotments from years ago, they were probably the first allotments I ever saw.

It's good to hear that they are thriving.
