  • Anybody else do things like this.

Just spent a week in Istanbul and while going through the food market I just couldn't help myself. Before I knew it I was the owner of a couple of kilos of apricots and some type of blackberries only about double in size. Also a couple of pomegranate and a bag of wallnuts. All now safely in the freezer waiting for an opertunity to make some jam.Is it just me as my husband is firmly convinced i'm mad.
Also bought 2 packets of pepper seeds for the princely sum of 3euro for the two packets. Theres about 200 seeds in both of them.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Excuse my ignorance but I didn't think it was allowed to bring produce in from another country? Me and my other half took a ferry to Holland a few years back and the customs were asking what fillings we had in our sandwiches, although I think this might have been for meat?

I used to live there and if you're talking about the market down by the docks at the back of the Grand Bazaar, it's addictive. I miss that place really bad sometimes. It's not mad - it's good housewifery isn't it

I always brought back edibles and seeds, so you're only as nutty as I am
The next step is to grow the apricot, blackberry and pomegranate seeds and have the taste of Istanbul with you for ever!
(Wonderful, vibrant place - brings back fond memories)

I was fermenting tomato seeds in the hotel in Madeira this springtime, totally normal behaviour I say

On a cruise around the Med it was hard convincing my husband that the beautiful fruit and veg in the market in Marseille would not be in good condition by the time we returned home (10 days later) but I did allow him tomatoes for the seeds. In a souk somewhere in Morocco I was quite worried what he was going to end up with on the herbalists stall. He then tried to convince me (unsuccessfully) that a massive still would fit in our cabin for the trip home. Markets on the continent seem so much better than the stalls of near identical tat we seem to get here.

We aren't even allowed to take food from one state to another because of the bugs and diseases. Even the seed companies aren't allowed to send to 3 of the states.

Woo hoo! Bring it on! OITC, next time we go away I'm off shopping.

That reminds me, I have a herb tea in the cupboard from Greece...

We came back from Cyprus, couple of years ago with so many seeds and nuts (in bags - the ones you eat salted etc, not ones to plant) A HUGE loaf of bread, that is the best in the world for toast and other stuff you can only get from Cyprus. We had to leave some clothes as the suitcase wouldn't shut My OH thinks I am mental, but, as I am poor and not likely to be going back there for quite some years I felt justified and also full I don't think I was supposed to though. There is probably some law that i've broken But hey, as I've eaten the evidence can they prove I did it?.... Also disregard that which I have just written as it not a confession!!!!
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...
