  • Ne'er cast a clout.........

Ne'er cast a clout till May be out............don't take your clothes off until May blossom is out.
The hawthorn trees here are still in tight buds, no sign of blossom at all. Looks like I'll be keeping my clothes on for a while longer
It does indicate how much later this year is than normal. I doubt that the May here will be out until June.
Is it flowering in your part of the world?

The hedges are not flowering yet, but the weekend sun brought out the flowers on a may tree near me.

Nothing yet on the bush at the bottom of our garden, knew I was a bit rash taking the electric blanket of the bed.

Apple and pear is blossoming. Thought they are both looking very ghoulish wrapped up on fleece so as to avoid any possible last minute frost. I have green penned in this saturday as the plant out day.

There aren't many leaves on the trees at all yet. I noticed it last week when we drove 100 miles south (to Colchester), and I realised the trees had leaves on

Its Oak before Ash again this year - although the "In for a Splash" theory was a wee bit wrong last year

On the way to Bristle this morning I saw May Blossom, lots of it. And also purple field vetch, crown daisies, buttercups, borage, fairy foxgloves and forget-me-nots. I forgot bluebells.....lots of those too.

In the middle of Bristle, tucked away behind the Colston Hall theatre, there's a wrought iron gate in an arch. Peer through the gate and under the arch and there is the most beautiful gothic arch set in the midst of a restful courtyard garden. I think the gothic arch has always been there, the garden was built around it.

On the way back, down the A38 past Long Ashton there are apple trees in full blossom all along the verges.

Beautiful. I so wish I'd taken my camera but a visit to the eye hospital wasn't something that prompted me to pick it up. My loss!

Well my cherry is in full bloom in the front garden, and while out and about this morning I saw some of the elders were in flower near the roadside, which generally means they are about 2 to 3 weeks ahead of my usual collecting spots. So even though we are behind normal its only by a week or 2.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

My strawberries have flowers, as does next door's beautiful pear (deep red pears and they waste every one - shocking) And I can see the buds on the plum trees, but they're not out yet. My grapevines have gone mad, smothered in leaves now - although not full size yet.

Just been out in the garden - the lilac has filled the air with perfume. Just gorgeous.

And, I noticed loads more birdsong whilst I was lying in the bath with t'winder open. I hope the nightingales come back this year - they've been very disturbed by all of the building happening around here (but haven't we all....) The council are widening Junction 21 and they've destroyed a lot of little ecosystems, killed shedloads of wildlife and cut down swathes of trees - we get even more traffic noise and it was bad enough before. The nightingales hate it. So they might have moved on permanently. I haven't heard any yet this year - will they be late, like everything else?
