Please can I recommend this book? Dave Goulson is founder of the bee conservation trust and this is his journey through bees and nature from when he was child. It is a fabulous read; this scientist can really communicate. Some of the descriptions of the feats bees achieve are breath taking, the detail of his studies is so well explained that it really gives you confidence in his results and knowledge. He also has a well balanced approach to a topic he is passionate about and such a grip on the complexity of biodiversity. Gosh, I could go on!

It was book of the week on Radio 4 recently read by Tim McInnerny, I could have believed it was Dave Goulson himself, it flowed so naturally. (This is not available as a pod cast.) I was hooked, hence I paid full wack for it but it hasn't let me down. Honestly, even the footnotes are really interesting!

And amazingly, you have no bumble bees in Oz and he explains why and how much damage their introduction to NZ has done and how they are begining to affect Tasmania!

Some one please tell me either:-

a) The Amazon ad for this book (on the side pane for the main page) was there before I posted and I didn't notice it.

or

I have never noticed this before, naive or what? Of course now I just realised apple adverts appear when we are writing about apples etc.

My OH says it happens all the time on his FB page (I don't bother) but he wants to know what he could possibly have written about to attract 20 year old tatooed ladies. (Actually, so do I!)

Can I add another recommendation for this book. I picked it up with a few 'beginner' gardening books from the library last week and have thoroughly enjoyed it - bumblebees are absolutely fascinating and this book does a great job of making the sciency bits readable . I'm now planning my flower planting for the bees.

And, to the person who was worried about the ad. (I know it's an old thread but if you see this...) - it probably did appear because you posted. Both Google ads and Amazon ads tend to target/complement either the content of the page or the recent browsing habits of the person who sees them; there are different options available to website owners. Start looking at the adverts that pop up as you browse the internet and you'll soon notice a pattern.

I'm going to read about ants next - any recommendations?
