Here is a fact sheet by RoSPA for British Summertime http://www.rospa.com/roadsafety/advi...e_briefing.htm
It puts forward the reasons for changing to Single/Double Summer Time which would save lives here in the UK.

I have been searching for the information on the bus that hit the schoolchildren in Stornoway Scotland that lead to us stopping the "British Summertime" experiment back in the 1960's. I thought it would be interesting to read up as accident involving children and vehicles during rush hour and out of school hours tend to predominately happen after 3.30pm when children are more likely to be dawdling home or get side-tacked. However I cant seem to find it. Is the story about Stornoway just an urban myth?

The number of accidents that do occur when the clock change is phenomenol - this morning I drove the M60 - two car pile up - M62 - 7 car pile up - M6 - 4 car pile up and M58 - well it's mainly empty. But the changting of time does effect our body clocks and causes silly mistakes that we wouldn't do before. http://www.rospa.com/roadsafety/info...time_paper.pdf
Stornoway did happen, it is mentioned here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/otr/intext95-96...ht14.1.96.html
I remember walking to junior school on my own in the pitch black back in the late 60's. What a change in life styles over the years...my kids were dropped off and picked up every day at the school gate at that age.
