Started off well, got this far down the post and am now confused - but don't know how to do a confused face
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!

Well I understand exactly what the issue is here, and I would tend to agree with the builders - build a dwarf wall on the edge of the existing patio, top with trellis.

There will be a gap (chasm!) between your new wall/trellis and the fence next door, but there ya go - at least you (or dogs) are not going to take a header in to it as the wall trellis will prevent this.

      Am I right?

PS: confused face just for Ancee

You lot - you just do it to confuse me. Some of you, like Hazel and G4, got it instantly!
I need to replace the screen wall with something different, that's all. I only showed you the photo taken from my neighbours, of the bit below it so that you could see that its not at ground level - and why the replacement has to be solid enough to stop anyone falling through it.
The gap has to stay there, in case I need to squeeze round the wall to clear the drain holes. My neighbour did suggest putting his fence right back against my wall - that's just a boundary dispute waiting to happen if I should ever sell up!
The wall may come down tomorrow, then I'll ask you again for ideas! Bet you can't wait
        Thanks for your patience

Sorry Hazel, didn't see you up there - yes, you're exactly right about the problem. Thank goodness somebody understood

I agree with hazel, low solid wall then trellis above, and a bed or pots in front so no-one is tempted to lean on the trellis. Maybe some coloured glass panes here and there in the trellis "windows" to provide rainbows on the patio? Seen a photo somewhere but can't think where....

Thanks Potty - I do like glass blocks but they're quite expensive, I think I've been wondering about some sort of window/spyhole/opening. The view is of Cardiff, across the Bristol Channel to Somerset so, whatever I have, it mustn't block that

Depends on how many you would need.

Glass block shop 190mm x 190mm clear blocks suitable for exterior use £2-09p each, may be worth a bit of research.

Sorry VC but I can't resist:

If you were my mother I'd be worried about you too and it would be nothing to do with 'cracks in the wall
