  • Copper labels

Ok, i have a bit of a label fetish and am trying to find as many different ones as possible.

In homebase i found copper labels that you scribe onto but when i got home my husband says copper kills plants/trees.
As usual i ignored him and used them anyway for my necterine tree and my cherry tree.

Since then they have both blossomed lovely, then the cherry tree grew leaves and fruit and seems to be doing ok and the necterine ones dead!

Any ideas? Please don't let him be right 😥surely they wouldn't sell them if this happens. I'm sure its all a total coincidence 😃

Copper in contact with sapwood will kill a tree, but touching the bark should be fine so he was right & wrong

Surely they wouldn't be made if they killed plants.

Trace element required by living plant material in small amounts. I have copper labels around trees and shrubs. Not killed anything yet.

I think you would have to hammer the copper into the tree for it to do any harm but officially yes copper can kill trees.

Copper nails hammered into a tree are supposed to kill it, or so i've heard. On the plus side though, copper has fungicidal properties and is also supposed to deter slugs.

(Not that you will get too many slugs up a tree!)
