Chenopodium album - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quinoa, a closely related species, is grown specifically for its seeds.

I love the way that names for plants cross over the language boundaries. So this Chenopodium Album is derived from the Greek for Goose and Podia (foot) to give you Fat hen's other common name Goosefoot - and that, of course, refers to the shape of its leaf.. And since Album is White - its a white goose foot
The plants in the family of Chenopodiacae ?sp like beets and spinach have leaves shaped like Geese's Feet. Remember that next time you pick some spinach
