Encourage him to take an advanced driving course - not expensive - my daughter took one and at age 17 was teaching people twice her age how to pass it. If they take it seriously makes them safer drivers.

Clever you - yes massively - it dropped by £600+ immediately after she passed the test and got cheaper every year thereafter.

I still have her on my Insurance as an additional driver and it costs me nothing extra - the quote before I added her and my son in law to the policy after they got married remained exactly the same so there was no reason not to add them.

How to overtake cyclists is no longer included in driving lessons I think? So do let him know that the double yellow lines aren't a cycle lane

Don't worry dad cycles and so did he. He knows to give plenty of room. Been taught from a very young age

I certainly will thanks for that will sure make a huge difference to the insurance which was definitely an ouch moment!

Glasses could be an option here.......

I have always worried about my girls but it's more about the other eejits on the road than their ability. Eldast has to drive in her job and has some serious extra training but I still worry ......

Not sure the eye test forms part of the advanced test.

I took my daughter along and took the first lesson - it was all about being alert to other road users etc.

In the test she had to give a running commentary as she drove along about everything that might affect her actions whether it was another vehicle, pedestrian, road sign, junction, etc. etc.

She had a choice of doing this, or being asked question about items the police officer taking the test considered she should have spotted

I think the main purpose of the course was to ensure the individuals observation and car handling skills were honed to perfection thus making a safer driver.

Apart from the saving in on insurance I think her best moment was when one of her pupils aged 35 passed her test first time after she had given her tuition.

When I took it many moons ago, it was known as Defensive Driving. The whole windows front, side & rear had to be treat as pictures. Like you say, running comentaries were made about what was happening in those pictures along with possible hazards.
