  • This week I planted out 16 spring cabbages, 12 kohl rabi, 10 modules each of red and green pak choi, turnips & mizuna, and 20 of mustard greens. Slugs have had the lot.
What a waste of time, money & effort.

    • I think you need to get in a lorry load of sharp grit to surround your veg garden, PP. That must be soul-destroying.

          • I've been looking after in laws since last Friday, fine, preparing meals, taking them out, fine, we've had cricket on for hours, over several days, I hate cricket! but ok. I've been in the kitchen cooking. I watch a programme I enjoy, for 40 mins, and they are bored! They are now watching something they watch every week, so I'm now upstairs!

This probably sounds really mean and selfish!

Haven't been able to go to plot, since last week!

FB, does cause a lot of upset and stress, it's often not being used appropriately, and people just don't think about they're posting! Hope it gets sorted!

                    • We're lucky enough to have several hectares of land where our free range chickens can peck and scratch.

This includes meadow, woodland and wilderness areas. But they can even go through the fence and peck around another five or so hectares of a grassed and tree-ed area around the earth dam next to our place.

So what do the little blighters do?

They leave all the open spots where they can do no harm and head straight for the vegetable garden where they go along all the rows of tomatoes and peck every ripe fruit. They just make big holes in each fruit, they don't even knock them off and eat them all. We have probably lost 10% or more of this year's crop in this way.

I've started planting sage and onions around the tomato plants as a threat, but they haven't taken the hint yet!

                      • People who leave crumbs all over the work surfaces. The same people who do not properly scrape plates off before washing up and leave the bits in the sink. Eeewwwww.

Should they be viewed as gifts? They always seem to leave them for me
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

                        • 50 year olds who behave like 5 year olds and chuck their toys about because things don't go their way. Sh** happens, man up and deal with it.

                          • You may have only just been shown how to do it, but no, I do not need a lesson, I have been creating distribution lists in e-mail for years. I accept that you're young and still learning but as the old saying goes "There may be snow on the roof, but there's still fire in the furnace" and you should remember that in future
