  • Has anyone done a good deed today?

I had to pop to the shop for some milk and there was a very old, frail and confused lady who was in front of me she was trying to buy a paper for her husband who was ill at home and a bag of potatoes but she had forgotten her purse I don't know why but offered to pay for her potatoes and her paper!

Not sure if I just wanted her to hurry up or wanted to do something nice!

Think it was a case of doing something nice as I offered to carry her potatoes to her house for her

Have you done a good deed today?

And I hope if ever I do get old frail and confused the community would do the same

            Darcy,

Afraid mine doesn't comes anywhere near yours - I dropped off a little history book to a 91 year old member of the FHS this morning and she was a bit concerned about the wallpaper in one of her rooms upstairs - she is unable to get up the stairs meantime having just got out of hospital, so I offered to have a look and told her I would fix the tiny problem I observed, so my only good deed, if you can call it that, was putting her mind at rest.

Darcy and Shen - it's not how much you do imo, it's actually doing it that makes the difference to people.

                Good on you both

Nice one Shen. Sometimes peace of mind is all the help you need.
Like RL, I haven't left the house today - or spoken to anyone. In terms of community spirit, I'm very fortunate in the 2 places where I live. Great neighbours, most of whom I could call on for help or a cuppa and they know that I'll do the same for them if I can.
I never pass anyone by on the street without smiling at them or saying hello. Some of them reply, others look taken aback and don't know how to react and some just ignore me. I don't really mind what they do, I'm doing it for me, as much as for them. Try it, its fun

Hoorah for good people doing good things! Even tiny kindnesses make the world a better place, IMO. It makes me sad how often people are wrapped up in their own selfish little universes. It's not from today but a little while ago a very stooped, frail old man (who I suspect was also near enough blind) asked me to help him cross the road. I took his arm and got him to the pedestrian crossing/traffic lights. Despite setting off the minute the green man appeared, we hadn't made it across before the red man came back. I couldn't believe that the people on either side of us started honking their horns!!! It was bloddy obvious that he could barely manage a painful shuffle! If looks could kill there'd have been two dead drivers! Selfish, thoughtless people!
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

You would have made a good hill walker - because of the isolation, sometimes you don't see anyone on a trip taking 12 hours or more in remote areas, nearly everyone on the mountains exchanges greetings and you tend to carry it back to normal life. I always greet anyone who passes me when I'm on my way to and from the local shop or when I'm in the front garden. Costs nothing and makes you feel good

Well Shen on that note, I'm going out for a hill walk! Lets see how many people I meet and whether I can get them to say Hello
I wave to trains too and always get a buzz when someone waves back Bet they're only doing it to humour that daft old biddy who stands on the sand all alone waving at trains
