Has anyone done a good deed today?

I told a man at the supermarket he could go ahead of me - he only had a carton of milk and the paper and I had a loaded basket. Does that count? It was such a little thing, and one that others have done for me countless times.

One good turn, etc, and when someone does that for me I am soooo surpised and really grateful.

A lady in Aldi at lunchtime let me go in front of her as I only had a couple of items.

I can report back on the 'say hello to everyone' campaign - everyone who I ran past in the park said hello back (some a bit startled) and most people on the road back to town (except the chap on crutches who I inadvertently nearly bowled over, which is fair enough), and a couple of miserable beggars.

Mind you, my cheery "good afternoon!" had degenerated into a gasped "gd ft'n'n" towards the end as it's all uphill at that point and I was knackered.

I haven't done any good deeds of particular note today but I recently cut down a conifer tree for a neighbour. She never bothered to thank me and when she went out a few weeks later to remove a few little twigs I had left behind, she put some of them in my bin! Oh well, it won't stop me from trying to be nice with people, it will just make me be more selective about whom I do nice things for.

As for waving/smiling/saying hello, I sometimes beep my horn and wave at people as I drive past, which usually results in an instinctive-response wave, followed by a look of confusion.

Hubby again fixed neighbour's second hedge trimmer then cut their grass. I have given up, I just can't compete, maybe I'm just too miserable, and it would be just tooooo boring both of us being nice.

I'd like to report a kindly act by my Hubby.

He parked his motor, with all its flashing lights and beacons on, behind a lorry that had conked-out, and was stranded in the outside lane, right before a roundabout. Vehicles were tearing up the right-hand lane, and in danger of having a collision with either the stranded lorry, or the traffic in the left-hand lane, as they tried to join it.

Luckily the lorry decided to start a short while later, and the driver could get out of the way, and to safety.

Nice gesture, thoughtful, and the lorry driver was very grateful.

He may have even saved lives.

SWMBO's good deed for the day.

She was outside in the garden when she heard a frantic squawking, looking round she found a small sparrow which had some how found it s way into my netted brassica patch. Took her ages to release it but release it she did.

Not much hope of keeping the flutterbys out then.

Not my good deed but it made me very happy - fumbling around trying to carry my luggage and my little dog at the train station, I mislaid my handbag (and thus all my cards, cash, keys, phone etc). It was only for minutes but I was proper panicky! Thank goodness for the nice people who handed it in and the conductor who clearly spotted the hyperventilating lady from some distance away and came running to give me it back. Hooray for good people!!!

I pick up litter ~ mostly school kids' litter ~ every day whilst walking the dog.

The other good deed I (we) did today was to invest in Kevin McCloud's new project HAB

My good deed for the day - shopping in BHS when an elderly lady with a walking frame asked if I'd mind taking her upstairs in the lift because she didn't like to get in one alone. I did so, then lurked until she had finished and casually joined her for the down trip too

I actually took my kids for an McDonald's ice cream before going to asda on my way in was a dude sitting on a sleeping bag looking dirty and a panting dog so bought the guy an ice cream too he was over the moon but could not stop thinking about the dog so in asda I bought a cheap bowl and 4 Ltrs of asda own water and returned to the guy he was almost crying and asked if I wanted his digerydoo thingy to this I replied its fine mate everyone deserves a break


Just typing this I feel so proud of myself even more that I know a lot of homeless are ex armed forces its not just the winter these guys struggle!
