  • Some Good News - For a Change!

I was going to stick this on the What Makes You Happy, but it's a bit bigger than that.

Remember the missing presumed burned/recycled holiday spending money?

Yesterday, one replacement cheque came from one of the companies. I popped into town PDQ and banked it before it even got another set of fingerprints on it. The bank says it will be cleared by next Friday - yay!

Also, whilst in town I bumped into my FinL. When you talk to him, he's either the life & soul of the party or grumpier than Clement Freud's bassett. Yesterday he was in a good mood. He asked how the holiday plans were going, and I ended up telling him about the lost funds. He laughed like a hyena, tears running down his face and me getting cross. But no, what he found funny is that my MinL has done this severial times - like mother, like son says he.

The upshot is that he will replace our euros - I should explain that I have (reluctantly) worked long hours on the ebay listings for my MinL's shop and the euros were my wages - because he can claim on his household insurance quite legally and he has the receipt for them too. They always have this sort of cover on their insurance as my MinL is renowned for losing handbags etc with the entire takings for the shop in them....

So, I'm popping in to see him on Monday to collect a second lot of euros, and he'll sort it out with his insurers.

    Good news, or what?
    Jules

Brilliant news, that's the best story - you have been through the mill a bit lately. So glad to hear that the sh1t fairy has finally left you.

VC, I didn't know too much about it, but FinL was well clued up.

I've felt so relaxed, I've even made a scenic skirt out of three yards of fabric he gave me from the shop - darling MinL knows nothing of this piece of outrageous generosity

I think I've finally evicted that faery. Wicked little besom.....she was getting far too comfy here.

Definitely Pimms this evening, lots of.

We're going to Holland. My parents are taking us. They had the idea at Christmas when we watched Andre Rieu on tv. It was then discovered that the last Maastricht concert of the year was the night before my birthday, so the trip turned in to a birthday gift. The APs found a bus trip that was for the weekend but, for four of us it was going to be £1000 and we'd be cream-crackered after 36 hours, especially spending most of it on a cramped bus.

The BH and my Dad spent some time on t'interwebnet and came up with a week's self-catering, ferry tickets etc for just over half the original cost, so my Dad booked it all. Ma says he's not been this excited about a holiday for many a year. It's a kids-free trip, but my boys will love having the house to themselves for ten days and I know it'll be spotless when I get home too - bonus!

I was born in Maastricht too, so we're going to see all the places we used to know, see what's changed. I spent my first eight years in Holland, but the APs were there longer - my Dad got all the best RAF postings back then; Holland, Germany, Ghan, Singapore, USA, France, Cyprus.

So, we leave for the Netherlands via Northamptonshire on Thursday. We sail on Saturday. I'm only just starting to look forward to it.......must start packing today!
