I had to resort to opening the loft hatch last night to try and make the heat rise a bit further, couldn't sleep it was so hot and sticky. I'm a northern lass, not acclimatised to weather like this!
If we need to work outside at home we try to outrun the sun as it makes it's passage around the house but sometimes it overtakes us! This weekend, though I really hate to complain about it, it has been too hot for us outside.
I hate being cold so much that it makes me miserable and am realky enjoying this hot weather. The gardening gets done as much as possible in the cooler part of the day, which is ok as I work till 2.30 anyway. Breakfast outside, lunch outside; evening tipple outside... you get the picture
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
It has been warm for about 3 days, and high 20's isn't a "heatwave".
Well, its not the heat, its the humidity, being a temperate area our humidity rises with the heat, which makes it uncomfortable. I can cope with mid 40's in Spain no problem at all as its dry.
I keep hearing we shouldn't complain about it but if some folks like to moan about the cold I figure I can admit to it being a bit too hot for my liking!
I have an old patio umbrella on the plot which I use as much as possible to give myself some shade and I've got my trusty hat but even so it's pretty exhausting trying to do anything much!
I find it quite difficult to work in the garden in this heat so things tend to get done later in the evening. Having said that, I'm not complaining, Summer has been a long time coming here and I love it.
My tip for cooling down would be, cold water on my wrists which cools the blood and drink lots of water. I also sometimes put a cold cloth on the back of my neck, that helps too.
Failing all that - a nice glass of cold cider helps
A garden is a lovesome thing, God wot! (Thomas Edward Brown)
I have a glass of Pear cider spritzer in my hand, the spritzer is this years Elderflower Champagne. It is very refreshing, and a little naughty for the middle of the day.
When I were a lad, ALL summers were like this. I cant ever remember a wet one... Now, what was I supposed to be doing?????? Hmmmm.. my poor old memory.
