I'm not keen on the idea of using a steamer for veg, for 2 reasons:
    1. I like my veg salted and it's not the same added afterwards
    2. I love to use veg water for making proper gravy

I was given an electric steamer too - had it out of the box once to look at. It's counter space that's lacking. if I could leave it out, I would probably use it. Even the breadmaker that I use 2 or 3 times a week lives under the stairs, next to the bread slicer, ditto. I mostly steam veg over the potatoes on the stove. I do like salt in the spuds (and runner beans, which are also boiled), but anything else I eat without.

As VC says, it looks a faff to get out, use, clean, (no dishwasher chez moi) and put away again
      Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
      Endless wonder.

I salt the water the potatoes go into indigo and steam the other veg above. The water can then be strained off and used for gravy. There's plenty of flavour in the water doing it this way, and you keep the colour on the veggies.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.
