Flippin' googegog spikes- I'm scratched to shreds from the elbows down to me finger tips

Nope- it's not a rant- I'm chuffed to bits with the fruit!...just wish I'd bought thornless varieties now!

Think we'll have gooseberry fool for pud tonight!

Had a bit munch on my three varieties yeesterday, still a bit tart as yet although the red ones are at the pink stage. Prefer the red ones when they are soft and luscious!

I love goosegogs Nicos, sounds like you need to open the centre of your bush a bit and let a bit of picking room in.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

I didn't think to much about the spines when I got my Gooseberry bush. It was on offer and I thought a few spines wouldn't be a problem. Got my first serious crop last year and boy was I wrong but well worth a bit of pain. Still have to pick this years crop so any tips to avoid spines will be gratefully received.

Dont seem to loose many so the spines do seem to be doing their job, which means more for me so probably worth a bit of discomfort.

I actually thought I had killed ours last year, as all the fruit fell off. Turns out it may have been eaten by a dog... She ripped herself to shreds getting to the fruit.

Roughly how much should you get from a 2 yr old bush?

                    Gosh - I don't know!
It'll depend on the variety and pollination/weather I suppose.

I got a severe burn on my wrist from a parsnip

                      Really.
