  • Scarecrows!

At the Hill this year, we've had a scarecrow competition, which I found terrific fun! My Grumpy George came second, with Lady Muck (complete with papier machie giant carrot) coming first.

I thought I'd stick a few pics up...

    Here's Grumpy George (above)

        Very impressive!

I'd love to see if we could do something similar on our plots!

As for George... as Ann Widdecombe so nearly said I think 'there is something of the Reich about him'!

Love them. What are the heads made of? Papier mache? (I want something for school that will survive the weather: we currently make heads out of stockings filled with plastic bags)

Grumpy George's head is made of an old cotton shopping bag. I sewed a round shape with a narrow neck and cut off the excess & turned inside out. Stuffed with newspaper. His body is an old pillowcase stuffed with newspaper.

Lady Muck's head is stuffed with straw, I noticed the other day.

I thought this was a really good competition idea.

              Oh, they are fab!

There's a village near us that has a Scarecrow competition some years. Some of them are great, too!

Are you sure that's not one of VC in her garden?

You've got to admit she's got green fingers and her flowers are lovely
