  • New Venture ideas needed

Hello to you lovely people, I've been away on holiday for the past couple of weeks completely incommunicado I've been to Freshwater East in Pembrokeshire. I had no phone, no email, no internet, no telly. Pure bliss.....

Anyway since I've come back OH and I have decided to start out on a new joint venture combining our talents we are both quite arty when we want to be. Some will know I had a business doing kitchens bathrooms and bedrooms. Well by mutual agreement my business partner and I have agreed to go our separate ways, I intend to carry on doing some kitchens and bedrooms but now I'm starting a fresh as a family concern, I don't just want to do that.

OH is a dab hand with anything stitch wise and already makes lots of gifty bits and bobs, she's also a catering teacher so is quite versatile. I'm quite handy as a carpenter in addition to my design background, but I'm struggling for a conceptual name for our new venture. It needs to have a Welsh flavour and sound homely and possibly abstract enough not to be too specific as to what we do or could do in the future.

Can anyone think of something a bit different or quirky? I love a good brainstorm.

I was thinking of using cwtch in the name but its quite popular so I'd be competing quite a lot with other brands with the google bots. can anyone think of some other good welsh words which might work.

If asking this question is inappropriate on the forum mods, please feel free to close it, I wouldn't want to overstep the mark.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Congrats Mikey!! Trying to think of a name is probably the hardest part!!
Cwtch is everywhere so not that!! My Welsh vocab is a bit limited Can you think of an English word that sums up what you'd like to be and translate it?

Might get a little repetitive, I say it enough as it is...

Mikey, I think you also need a name that is easy to say/read by a non-Welsh speaker. Perhaps take a couple of words and run them together like "Gydani" or "Ni a chi".

                  Popty Ping...

What will the new venture actually be doing?

What are you going to be actually doing (sorry if I'm being daft here!)?

With regard to a name, I'd either come up with a practical name describing what you do 'Llanishen Crafts', 'Llandaff Collectables' or whatever, OR (it's naff, I warn you), you could join your two names for a unique name 'Mickann' or 'Joikey'. Obs this could be terrible, depending on your names, but it should give you something unique to google. Actually, a name that people don't have to ask you to spell every time you give out your email addy would be good!

I'm reading it as Mikey wants to keep his options open and be able to do all sorts of things without being constrained by the name.

Then 'Miscellany' - or the Welsh translation?

I'd been wondering about Popeth which is Everything. We say "Popeth yn iawn" for That's OK (Everything is well) and "Bydd popeth yn iawn" for "Everything will be alright". I'm sure a Welsh speaker will be along soon to correct me

Well, I'm planning to continue with the supply and installation of Kitchens and Bedrooms to begin with but we are looking to also add a collection of arts and crafts and gifts which we do in our spare time. OH makes dolls dresses, christmas decorations, cards, covers furniture, makes party cakes. I make driftwood pieces of art and furniture, picture frames and mirrors.

So you can see its all a bit little eclectic, and we only really dabble in the crafty bits and pieces at the moment. I'm hoping that we can move away from the kitchens and bedrooms in time and concentrate more on the craft element which personally I find far more rewarding.

Zaz, popty ping tickled me its a phase used for a microwave dinner is that what you meant?
